LOVEABLE BOY IS STILL WAITING FOR SOMEONE TO LOVE HIM BACK
Vernika was shocked to see a cute little puppy running alone along a busy street. She watched in horror as he ran across the road and was hit by a car. She contacted us when she was unable to find his original guardians – and with no microchip or collar our search proved fruitless too.
The pup had developed a limp so we took him to the vet who prescribed seven days of bed rest – not easy for a brindle bundle of boisterous energy! We are pleased that his leg recovered completely.
We named the pup Vernie after his rescuer and he has been registered, micro-chipped and de-sexed.
This beautiful puppy has now grown into a large, handsome, 15-months-old Mastiff X, who has been with us for most of his life. He adores cuddles and playtime with people and dogs, and loves his adventurous off-leash walks - whether it’s charging through the bush, galloping around a dog park or swimming in the ocean.
Vernie wants to be with people all the time, and would be happy chilling out at a café or in front of the TV with you as long as he has company. He likes children but would probably knock young ones over with his enthusiastic play, so wouldn’t be suited to a family with kiddies under 11.
He knows basic commands but does need more work on these. Vernie is currently attending a group obedience class with some of our volunteers, and as a condition of his adoption, his new family will have to be committed to continuing his training.
If you have time for a young, energetic dog, and will love him to pieces for the length of his lifespan, we look forward to hearing from you. Please send your applications to
PABLO WILL BE A LOYAL COMPANION TO HIS SUCCESSFUL APPLICANT
A friendly young dog was begging for food scraps and looking worse for wear when Rachel found him at an isolated Auckland dog park. He was very thin and suffering hair loss through a severe flea infestation. When she opened her car door for her own dog after their walk, the stray jumped in and wouldn’t budge. Rachel named him Pablo and contacted us.
With no collar, micro-chip or neutering, we weren’t surprised when nobody came looking for Pablo - we believe he was abandoned. We bathed him, had him vet checked, chipped, vaccinated, de-sexed, nails clipped, etc and soon fell in love with his enthusiastic, even-tempered nature. Pablo was unused to being on a lead, but is improving with practise and can be trusted to walk leash-free in traffic safe areas.
This happy, affectionate boy is a Labrador X thought to be about two-years old. He loves walks, fetching sticks and human company in equal measure and enjoys playing with other dogs. Having experienced starvation, he is also pretty keen on food and treats. Pablo has recovered well; his coat has grown in and he is now a healthy weight.
We are looking for a home for gentle Pablo where he will be with a human companion most of the time. Due to his energy and strength, he would be most suitable for an individual, couple or family with older children. In order to tighten up his recall and to encourage bonding with his successful applicant, a series of group dog training classes are a condition of Pablo’s adoption.
Pablo will be a fun, loyal and loving companion. After his ordeal, we very much look forward to placing him in a home where he will be cherished for the rest of his life. All inquiries to
Bronxy is now in her wonderful trial home. Watch this space...
ORIGINAL ADVERT: BRONXY MUST HAVE A CAT-FREE HOME Bronxy is looking for a fun and cuddly home.
Her early life is unknown, but when she ended up in the dog pound and her caregivers were contacted, they said they didn’t want her back. Because of her loving nature, the pound staff kept her there longer than is usual, and a wonderful family finally adopted her.
Sadly, Bronxy was in her new home less than a month due to her fixation on their cat. It was a heart-wrenching decision, but they couldn’t put their feline friend at risk, so contacted us. Unless she is in a fully fenced area, we recommended that Bronxy is kept on her extender leash due to her intense prey drive.
Bronxy is a three-year-old Corgi x Jack Russell. She adores human company and loves to be cuddled on laps and in arms - where she regularly falls sound asleep. Bronxy enjoys car rides even more than her regular walks.
She also likes to playfully run with other dogs, but because she is a gentle and sensitive soul, any canine in her new home would need to have an equally soft disposition.
Bronxy has been de-sexed, vaccinated, micro-chipped and registered. This sweet little girl has a delicate digestive system so her successful applicant will need to continue feeding her a prescription diet. Bronxy must be taken to a series of group training classes as a condition of her adoption to increase her commands beyond ‘sit’. She can be distracted by enticing scents and pulls on the lead if something catches her eye. It would be great if her new caregiver can run at least short distances with Bronxy when she has bursts of happy energy.
This cute companion dog sincerely wants to belong, she is begging for love and stability and we are determined that her next home is her final one. If you think you are the caregiver to give her a happy and stable future, we very much look forward to your application. Please direct all inquiries to
We would like to thank Dog Protection Society for fostering Bronxy, Colleen for bringing her into our care, our wonderful volunteers for assisting with her walks and Nose To Tail for offering her complimentary baths.
