A dog died every fortnight on New Zealand racetracks in 2019/20.
The Greyhound Racing New Zealand 2020 Annual Report shows that 34 dogs were killed on racetracks due to critical injuries sustained during racing. A further 165 dogs were euthanized for reasons the industry will not disclose.
There is a sad link here with Australia, too: Australian government export statistics indicate that 1,355 Greyhounds were exported from Australia to New Zealand from 2014 to 2019.
Every one of them was a dog who deserved love and kindness, not to suffer for the sake of gambling.
The petition closes soon and Greyhounds need us to speak up for them. Please add your name and share with family and friends who also care about dogs.
