Tano

Tano is so fortunate to have been adopted by a wonderful woman in Palmerston North who already had one of our lovely dogs. Tano and Ghost love running along the riverbanks and snuggling up with Mary on cold winter's nights. A trainer has been enlisted to help with Tano's lead walking and his every need is catered for. We couldn't have chosen a more loving home for this precious old boy.

ORIGINAL ADVERT: TANO NEEDS A DOTING RETIREMENT HOME

alt As so often happens when relationships fail, dear Tano found himself with nowhere to go. Neither of his caregivers could find rental accommodation that allowed a dog…but he was very fortunate to end up in the loving care of staff at the Dog Protection Society. Months later, when his 10th birthday came and went, there was still no sign of a home for this lovable, strong-willed, strong-bodied old man. (Due to his strength, Tano would not suit an elderly or frail guardian).

Having noticed and then fallen in love with Tano while the DPS was kindly fostering some of Animal Re-homing’s dogs, I offered to put feelers into our networks to help in the search for Tano’s retirement home…and my assistance has been welcomed.

He is a very friendly Staffy X Fox Terrier X who enjoys affection and cuddles during his mellow times. When he feels bonded to you, he will roll on his back as an invitation to rub his tummy. He loves being with people and approaches other dogs with tail-wagging good humour. Due to his affectionate nature and love of people, we are seeking a home where he won’t be left too long without human company. In his previous home he had indoor/outdoor access and slept inside every night. This warmth and comfort must continue in his new home.

Tano has lived happily with children from 6 months to 13 years and, although he shows interest in cats and other animals, he has never shown aggression towards them.

He knows basic commands (but doesn’t always follow them) and is expert at sitting up on his haunches to beg for treats. Tano is active, lively, and loves to chase tennis balls and go for runs on beaches and in parks and bush. He loathes being on a leash and will initially pull hard and attack it with wrath. His successful applicant may need to engage a professional dog coach to tighten his recall and his on-lead walking skills. A securely fenced property is a condition of Tano’s adoption.

alt

Tano has recently had a comprehensive vet check, including dentistry and the removal of a dermoid cyst on his back. His urine and blood tests reveal that his organs are functioning well and his x-rays only indicate some arthritis on his lower spine. His new caregiver will need to be careful with his diet and treats because his love of food can lead to weight gain. He is neutered, vaccinated, registered, micro-chipped, nail-clipped, flea and worm treated

Tano will suit a home where fun and plenty of human company are part of the equation, along with exercise, occasional treats, warmth and loads of cuddles. He could live happily with another accepting canine companion.

We look forward to your applications. Thank you.
