Vernie has now been adopted into a wonderful home.

ORIGINAL ADVERT: LOVEABLE BOY IS STILL WAITING FOR SOMEONE TO LOVE HIM BACK

Vernika was shocked to see a cute little puppy running alone along a busy street. She watched in horror as he ran across the road and was hit by a car. She contacted us when she was unable to find his original guardians – and with no microchip or collar our search proved fruitless too.

The pup had developed a limp so we took him to the vet who prescribed seven days of bed rest – not easy for a brindle bundle of boisterous energy! We are pleased that his leg recovered completely.

We named the pup Vernie after his rescuer and he has been registered, micro-chipped and de-sexed.

This beautiful puppy has now grown into a large, handsome, 15-months-old Mastiff X, who has been with us for most of his life. He adores cuddles and playtime with people and dogs, and loves his adventurous off-leash walks - whether it’s charging through the bush, galloping around a dog park or swimming in the ocean.

Vernie wants to be with people all the time, and would be happy chilling out at a café or in front of the TV with you as long as he has company. He likes children but would probably knock young ones over with his enthusiastic play, so wouldn’t be suited to a family with kiddies under 11.

He knows basic commands but does need more work on these. Vernie is currently attending a group obedience class with some of our volunteers, and as a condition of his adoption, his new family will have to be committed to continuing his training.

If you have time for a young, energetic dog, and will love him to pieces for the length of his lifespan, we look forward to hearing from you. Please send your applications to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

Thanks to Vernika for rescuing Vernie, Dog Protection Society New Zealand for fostering him for us, Paw Justice for donating his puppy food, Nose To Tail Dogwash for giving him complimentary baths, Bronwyn for updating his status on Pets on the Net and to our valued volunteers for providing him with regular walks and love.
