Rusty

rustySeveral animal-lovers alerted us to a friendly, skeletal, ginger cat hanging around a landfill tip. The photos of him were pitiful and caused us sleepless nights - especially during the recent frosty weather.

We named this sad little waif Rusty and spent three long days scouring the dump and surrounding area for him - without success. The landfill workers told us that countless cats were abandoned there by uncaring people and that many are run over by the huge trucks. The management kindly opened the dump for us to continue our search after hours.

We then received a phone call from Colin, one of the locals we had left our number with... and the cat he described sounded like our boy. We raced there with hopeful hearts and were well rewarded for our efforts. (Colin is pictured with his lovely horse).

Once home, we gave sweet Rusty three small meals an hour apart, treated him for fleas and worms and, after giving us endless smooches and conversation, he snuggled into his cosy bed for the night... with a heat-pump ensuring his added warmth.

If no-one is missing this boy from Dairy Flat in Auckland, Rusty will be looking for a home when he has gained weight and had a comprehensive health check.

Please contact us to register your interest... and please make a donation towards Rusty's care if you are able. His full vet check alone will be $189.00. Dentistry, thyroid tests, medications, micro-chip insertion & registration, etc are all at additional cost.

Note: Many thanks to Gaby Bailey for raising the alarm about Rusty and to Laura Rust for offering to help with the search. (We named Rusty after Laura).
