PACK RAT STEW & OTHER TALES by NZ author Don Batley

pack-rat-stew-front-cover The 32 pages of quirky, rhyming animal stories in this A4 sized paperback book will appeal to all age groups, including young-at-heart adults.

The beautiful coloured illustrations of Chris Schipper will delight even the youngest of children.

Pack Rat Stew will be a wonderful gift for the kids in your life or for libraries, schools and kindergartens. Please spread the word.

This special book was written and donated by Kiwi author Don Batley (pictured). He dedicated it to his much-loved friend Bandit the cat. Don has been actively supporting our work with animals in strife since early 2006 when he adopted five piglets from us who are happily living out their natural lifespans on his property. Thank you Don – we appreciate you so much!

Don is unlikely to produce a re-run of his book, so this is your last chance to get copies. Pack Rat Stew is available at this price only while our stock lasts. They will make great Christmas stocking fillers. Please order today!

author-don-batley.jpg We are hoping our supporters will buy the books in groups of 5 or more to quickly raise the urgently needed funds and to save us postage & packaging costs. However, we welcome orders for smaller numbers too.

NOTE: Special thanks to Karen Wheeler at S.G. Digital Ltd in Auckland for donating enough Animal Re-homing business cards for inclusion with each book.

JILL & BEN – THE FLOWERPOT FRIENDS by NZ artist George Doel

jill--ben-garden-people These eye-catching, 900mm tall, wooden garden people are original hand-crafted pieces. They weigh about 13.5kg each and are made from H4 ground retention tanalised timber. The joints are glued, screwed and/or galvanised nailed. The terracotta pots are replaceable and Jill & Ben’s birthdates are under their hats. Their heads will turn in any direction and they can easily be moved about by lifting them under their armpits.

Although they are built to last and can be left outdoors all year round, George recommends putting them in a sheltered spot during the winter to extend their lifespan.

Jill likes people and constantly waves to garden visitors while her colourful, ribboned plaits blow in the breeze. With her golden eyes, matching nose and fashionable scarf, she will add colour and interest to any garden.

Ben is a bit of a rebel with his flowing hair, droopy moustache and a ‘mum’ tattoo on his arm. With his John Denver specs, green eyes & nose and a scarf to match Jill’s, he cannot help but attract the interest of passers-by. Being an old soldier, Ben wears a note reminding people that “Old soldiers never die. They just go to heaven and re-group”.

aartist-george-doel Jill and Ben were created and donated by Glenfield artist George Doel - specifically as a fundraising initiative for Animal Re-homing. This is not the first time we have benefited from his generosity and talent. Earlier this year George (pictured) gifted us beautiful dog sculptures to help raise funds. We are very grateful for his on-going support.

In the spirit of fundraising we are hoping that Jill & Ben will sell for an outrageous price.

NOTE: Special thanks to Ross Healy at Timber World in Albany for providing the necessary wood to create these cute garden folk at a very good price.

Thank you so much to each of you for participating in our 2012 fundraising campaign. Your help is life-saving and enables us to continue our work.
