Tomorrow is New Years Day

Tomorrow is New Years Day - the day when animals suffer annually at the Warkworth Rodeo.

Please join the crowd of peaceful protesters outside the Warkworth Showgrounds for a one hour vigil from 11-12noon. Wear a black top, signage will be provided. Contact us if you need a ride from Auckland. See you there!

Pumpkin and Sesame are both girls!

Every time we rescue chicks, we hope against all odds that they will be hens. 50% of the time they are not and we then have the almost impossible task of finding safe and loving homes for little cockerels - sadly, roosters are the most unwanted animal we work with.

We were dreading hearing the gurgling (but very cute) sounds of juvenile practise crows when Pumpkin laid her first egg - amidst plenty of clamour. A week later Sesame quietly followed suit and we were delighted to discover their eggs side by side in the nesting box.

These wee girls have been lovingly raised at our Auckland shelter for 5 months and have developed a deep trust in us. They must be adopted into a home where they are more than egg laying machines, more than breeders and more than garden decorations. We expect Pumpkin and Sesame to be welcomed as cherished companions and family members.

If you have a wonderful setup for these good friends that is safe from dogs, hawks and other predators and if you will spend time interacting with them, we would like to hear from you.

We would also like to hear from you if you can offer a safe haven to 1-100 roosters on your rural property.

WOO-HOO! Jenny is back

It was such a huge relief to collect our missing rescue dog from Auckland Council Animal Shelters today. Thankfully, last night someone found her, phoned Animal Control and Jenny was taken to the safety of the Silverdale Animal Shelter.

The staff had given her excellent care overnight and Customer Services Coordinator, Ruve, was delighted to return her to us. It's a public service that really works! Thank you council.

Jenny is now back with her lovely fosterers and we can all breathe out again. Meanwhile her 15-year-old lifetime housemate, Rory, found his way back to their fosterer through social media. These sweet senior citizens will be looking for a retirement home when they have completed their comprehensive vet checks and had a second groom. Please spread the word.

Huge thanks to everyone who sprang to action searching the streets until midnight and again early this morning, making posters and phone calls, bombing social media, etc. We are also very grateful to Petsonthenet.co.nz, NZ's nationwide database for lost and found pets for giving Jenny high visibility on its website.

NOTE: This is a reminder to us all to inform visitors and tradespeople that they need to take extreme care that our animals don't leave our properties during the time they are there.

MISSING FROM BAYSWATER, NORTH SHORE, AUCKLAND

Please let us know immediately if you have sighted or found Jenny. Her fosterer can be reached at 021 415 893 or 021 323 513. Please share widely...

We have just rescued this timid, 11.5-year-old white Bichon Frise girl. Late this afternoon she was accidentally let off her fosterer's property on Bayswater Ave. Shy little Jenny is freshly groomed and wearing a green collar with pink flowers. We are beside ourselves with worry.

Send the e-mail letter to New Zealand's incoming Prime Minister

Please send the e-mail letter to New Zealand's incoming Prime Minister at the link below. Rodeo is nothing more than animal abuse disguised as human entertainment - and it needs to be stopped.

All major animal rights and welfare organisations are calling for a total rodeo ban and our support will ensure the suffering (terror, injury, death) of animals at rodeos across the country will end.

Thank you for caring enough to take the time to be part of this historical social change.
