Pesque’s new home has been violated

We are so sorry to tell you that the wonderful home we organised for Pesque the pig has fallen through. His approved caregivers contacted us to share the distressing news that several of their beloved pets had been slaughtered in the night - by methods that made it clear they were killed at human hands.

Our hearts go out to them in their anguish... and we are again searching for a loving home for Pesque - hopefully with a sow or two for company.

He must leave his foster home by early July, so temporary care is also a possibility. Please put the word out among your rural contacts, so that dear Pesque can finally have a place to call his home.

NZ Government condones animal abuse - boycott rodeos!

The fight to ban rodeos in New Zealand continues. The fastest way to close them down is to boycott this cruel entertainment. No spectators = no animal abuse!

How can each of us stop animal suffering?

One bobby calf abuser has been apprehended due to excellent undercover filming by Farmwatch. As with rodeo abuse, dairy cow abuse, slaughter-house abuse, chicken, cattle and pig farm abuse, the government will expect us to believe that this is yet another one-off rogue abuser/situation/farm. How much "one-off, rogue animal abuse" does it take before we admit that the meat and dairy industries are inherently cruel and are lethally abusive?

Please reconsider your dietary choices good people. When we stop consuming meat and dairy products the abuse stops. Click on the image for the news video clip.

Government considers banning rodeo

More than 62,000 of us signed the petition to end rodeo in New Zealand. Tomorrow the government will meet to consider our demands.

The Animal Welfare Act 1999 is breached every season when rodeo animals are subjected to pain, terror, suffering and death in the name of entertainment. (Click on the image to see the undercover video footage taken just last year).

The law needs to change and we're hopeful that tomorrow will result in a total and permanent rodeo ban.

Phew! Pesque is safely in foster care

Remember the beautiful pig named Pesque?

In our last post we had finally found him a wonderful home on the outskirts of Wellington with two rescued sows for company - and were searching for a stopover haven near Auckland for his neutering and recovery.

When nowhere suitable was found, The Animal Sanctuary kindly offered to foster him for us as a last resort – and we gratefully accepted. We are delighted to report that Pesque has now been neutered and will stay at the sanctuary for a month until he is no longer fertile. The sanctuary generously sponsored the cost of his surgery.

Huge gratitude to Shawn and Michael for fostering him and to Amanda and Kevin for keeping him protected and loved until then. Kevin so adores Pesque that he travelled with him from the Far North and is staying at the sanctuary to settle him in. We look forward to transporting Pesque to his final home in mid-June and hope Kevin is able to accompany us there. Watch this space…
