Introducing Sue…

From the time Sue co-adopted a lovely senior dog named Biggles through us, she hasn’t stopped supporting our work with inventive fundraising initiatives. She has sold handmade baked dog treats, set up a novel coffee donation box at her workplace and has so far raised an incredible $2,247.40 through the creation and sale of beaded bracelets. To see photos of the volunteer bracelet making weekend held in her home visit https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.355209601328542.1073741831.276406992542137&type=3

We would like to acknowledge and thank Sue for her ongoing kindness, enthusiasm and help with our animals. You rock Sue! Biggles is the luckiest boy on the planet to have you as one of his primary caregivers. To read about Biggles’s unusual adoption and Sue’s dog treat enterprise, please click here

Visit to Torbay Brownie Unit

Brownie leader, Lauren, invited us to visit her Torbay Unit to help the children earn their Animals Badge. She wrote, “I completely understand if you're too busy - but we are keen to support a local organisation if possible, making our girls aware of your work and helping out in the way of any service that we could do - bringing along food or items to donate, etc”.

A delightful group of Brownies, leaders and parents greeted us when we arrived with one of our homeless pups, Vernie. A lively, interactive talk followed with plenty of questions and comments. Vernie was extremely happy to be petted by every child (and adult) in the room.

The children kindly donated pet food and some of our books and bowls were purchased. After the talk we were spoilt with flowers and beautiful handmade thank you cards.

We hope the Torbay Brownie Unit will continue to support our work with animals in strife. We heard talk of a bake sale…

Introducing our Primary Groomer

Introducing our primary groomer, Linde Walker - in the back of Animal Re-homing's car with our latest rescue babies - Abbie, Katie, Bobby and Joey.

Since 2010 Linde Walker has kindly been grooming the dogs we save. We are so grateful for her knowledge, expertise and compassion with our animals. When we take them to her they are often matted, frightened, stinking and sad. When we collect them, they not only look and smell wonderful, but their confidence and joy levels have sky rocketed.

Last week Linde cancelled all her plans for her only day off to give our latest rescued waifs a much-needed groom. Sadly Abbie, Katie, Bobby and Joey’s caregiver is seriously ill and the dogs were home alone when she was rushed to hospital. It’s possible these little ones will need new homes in future – so please check back with us at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

Linde can never know how much we appreciate her and her generosity in helping our animals in so many ways. For excellent service for your doggy companions, please click here

Please join us this coming Saturday

Thank you so much to Direct Animal Action for organising events to ban rodeos around New Zealand. Please keep your diaries clear this coming Saturday 9th January and also Waitangi Day (6th February) to be part of them. Let us know if you are coming from Auckland so we can arrange carpooling. For more information about the peaceful demonstrations, please go to https://www.facebook.com/events/1005778019482928/

Many dedicated Animal Re-homing volunteers and supporters faced the stormy weather after a late night on New Year’s Eve and still rolled out of bed the next day to be part of a rodeo demonstration in Warkworth. Thankfully the cruel event was cancelled, but we went ahead with a photo shoot at the showgrounds. Some Animal Re-homing volunteers are pictured below at a cafe afterwards.

Happy New Year!

Happy New Year! We hope you've had a wonderful and relaxing Christmas break and you’re feeling recharged and ready for 2016.

It’s been another full-on and successful year for Animal Re-homing. We've rescued and re-homed dogs & puppies, cats & kittens, hens & chicks, roosters, ducks, hedgehogs, cows, birds, rabbits… We've attended protests and demonstrations, advocated for animals with council and the public, given educational talks at schools and community groups, fed and cared for cat and chicken colonies, fundraised for and purchased a new vehicle, worked with and assisted other animal rights and welfare groups, provided food and veterinary care for the dogs of homeless people, built and repaired animal related structures, de-sexed countless cats… all while running the shelter day to day.

Thank you so much for your ongoing support – we simply couldn't do it without you!

May 2016 be as peaceful for you and your loved ones as it is for these beautiful rescued chimps at the Tchimpounga Chimpanzee Rehabilitation Centre. (There is no sound briefly at the beginning, but keep watching).
