Rodeo Demonstration on New Years Day!

Please start 2016 in a way that will help change history for abused animals in New Zealand. Start the New Year with an act of compassion.

Click on the image below to watch the footage recorded in NZ last Summer - we know you will feel moved to take action.

This coming Friday 1st January the cruel rodeo circuit kicks off with the first ‘show’ at Warkworth (45 minutes north of Auckland). Join us there in a peaceful demonstration so the media has an opportunity to inform the public about this animal abuse disguised as entertainment. Other major animal organisations such as the SPCA New ZealandSAFE and Farmwatch are also fighting hard to close down this industry. The Government is slow to act, so it is public awareness that will end the barbarism. No customers, no rodeo.

Please wear a plain black top and remember this is a sombre and silent, one hour demo – no chanting, no drums or whistles, no heckling, no confrontation from us. Banners will be provided.

Be at Kowhai Reserve (on your right as you head north leaving Warkworth township) by 10.15am for a brief. We will then move on to the rodeo venue a little further north at the Dargaville Showgrounds. The demo is from 11am – 12 noon. For more info: https://www.facebook.com/events/441771152681616/

We will be leaving Browns Bay at 9.30am sharp and you are welcome to join us in convoy or to carpool. Please let us know you are attending the demo and how many friends will be joining you at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

Happy Christmas Everyone!

Happy Christmas Everyone!

You can't beat the joy an animal can bring to a home.

May you and your loved ones have as much fun and laughter as these two on Christmas Day!

Ninja-Duck now has a safe haven

Remember Ninja-Duck? This beautiful Muscovy drake was at risk of being killed, on the roads or by dogs, when he tried to make his home in suburbia.

When we were asked for help, we took a trap to capture him - but it wasn’t needed. While Ninja took food from his kind feeder Dee, we were able to pick up this beautiful boy for a cuddle.

Through our Facebook page we found Tracey, and Ninja is now enjoying the company of her two other Muscovy boys named Maverick and Goose. It was lovely to experience their peaceful property and to know that Ninja is now in a safe environment with this family and their many rescue pets.

Thank you Dee, thank you Tracey, Russell and family. How we love a happy ending! smile emoticon

Pablo will be a loyal companion to his successful applicant

Pablo FaceA friendly young dog was begging for food scraps and looking worse for wear when Rachel found him at an isolated Auckland dog park. He was very thin and suffering hair loss through a severe flea infestation. When she opened her car door for her own dog after their walk, the stray jumped in and wouldn't budge. Rachel named him Pablo and contacted us.

pablo-at-time-of-rescue-rachel-aWith no collar, micro-chip or neutering, we weren't surprised when nobody came looking for Pablo - we believe he was abandoned. We bathed him, had him vet checked, chipped, vaccinated, de-sexed, nails clipped, etc and soon fell in love with his enthusiastic, even-tempered nature. Pablo was unused to being on a lead, but is improving with practise and can be trusted to walk leash-free in traffic safe areas.

This happy, affectionate boy is a Labrador X thought to be about two-years old. He loves walks, fetching sticks and human company in equal measure and enjoys playing with other dogs. Having experienced starvation, he is also pretty keen on food and treats. Pablo has recovered well; his coat has grown in and he is now a healthy weight.

We are looking for a home for gentle Pablo where he will be with a human companion most of the time. Due to his energy and strength, he would be most suitable for an individual, couple or family with older children. In order to tighten up his recall and to encourage bonding with his successful applicant, a series of group dog training classes are a condition of Pablo’s adoption.

Pablo will be a fun, loyal and loving companion. After his ordeal, we very much look forward to placing him in a home where he will be cherished for the rest of his life. All inquiries to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

A huge thanks to Dog Protection Society New Zealand for fostering Pablo, Nose To Tail Dogwash for his complimentary bath, Rachel for rescuing him, and all of the volunteers involved in his care.

Good news!

Good news! Our weekend street fundraiser made $1,300 to split between our vet clinics – now only $4,431 to go! If you were unable to support us on Saturday, please make a donation at http://test.animalrehoming.co.nz/help-us/donate

Thank you to the fabulous volunteers who gave up their precious time to help on the day; Frank, Gordana, June, Nicole, Arionne, Onjoli, Sam, Maggie, Hannah, Sue, Jenni, Elizabeth, Carla, Imogen… and the dogs Lutha and Baxter! It would not have been possible without you all.

Lena gifted us with branded T-shirts and a professional banner, author Don Batley donated his children’s poetry books, Sue made beautiful beaded bracelets, and Diane from Zest Products gave us a selection of lovely pet bowls.

And of course, special thanks to the members of the public who made generous donations and purchases!

It turns out we can’t even have a fundraising day without rescuing an animal. A fledgling sparrow who had fallen from her nest is now safely in the care of the North Shore Bird Lady. Thank you Sylvia!
